We pride ourselves on consistency and a passion for the craft. We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable individual to join our team part-time and help keep the lab running smoothly.
Position Summary
The Part-Time Lab Assistant will support the Head Lab Manager in the operations of the film lab. This is a hands-on role that requires a keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and a fundamental understanding of film photography principles.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Lab Operations
- Film Processing Support: Assist with chemical mixing, monitoring machinery for C-41 Development
- Quality Control: Inspect developed film for quality and consistency, flagging any issues immediately.
- Scanning & Digitization: Perform high-resolution scanning of 35mm and 120 format film using specialized lab scanners.
- Maintenance: Execute routine cleaning and maintenance procedures for all processing equipment, printers, and scanners.
Customer & Administrative Support
Order Intake: Accurately log, tag, and prepare incoming customer film for processing, ensuring all instructions are clear and correctly entered into the system.
Fulfillment: Carefully package and prepare completed orders (negatives, prints, digital files) for shipping.
Lab Cleanliness: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.

Required Qualifications
Experience: Previous hands-on experience in film photography, a darkroom, or a commercial photo lab environment is strongly preferred.
Availability: Must be able to commit to 10-15 hours per week with a flexible schedule that may include evenings or weekends. We currently have fixed developing days on Tuesdays and Fridays for C41. You are expected to fulfill up to 7 hours in each run depending on the volume. 
Attention to Detail: Exceptional precision is required film handling, quality inspection, and organizing customer orders.
Organizational Skills: Proven ability to manage multiple simultaneous orders and maintain clear record-keeping.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift/move containers up to 25kg (e.g. chemical drums).
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client interactions.
Preferred (Bonus) Qualifications
Specific experience operating professional lab scanning equipment (e.g., Fuji Frontier, Noritsu).
Familiarity with Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop for minor post-scan adjustments.
